The 88 books of the Ethiopian biblical tradition, gathered in English in a single volume, together with the church-order books of the broader canon. Alongside the Old and New Testaments, this edition carries the books the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo tradition preserved and most English Bibles leave out, among them Enoch, Jubilees, 4 Baruch, the three books of Meqabyan, and the deuterocanonical books. The scripture is drawn from historic public-domain translations, chiefly the King James Version of 1611 for the canonical books and the World English Bible for Tobit, Judith, Wisdom, Sirach and Baruch. Five books stand apart: the three books of Meqabyan, the Book of Jubilees, and Fourth Baruch. These are the editors’ own English rendering, and an opening note explains that choice and marks each one. Where the Hebrew carries the divine name, this edition prints Yahweh in place of the customary substitution. This edition is not issued by the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church and is not affiliated with it. Second edition, revised and expanded. The engravings are by Gustave Dore.
